Over the years, 1990 - 1995
1990-1991
The first year of Wanchal Rotary Club & its Charter President was Frenchmen, Patrick Marie Herbet. There were 35 charter members comprising 10 different nationalities. 30% of the charter members were ladies. During the year, the Club was very active. It signed a sister club agreement with the Rotary Club of Pasay Silangan in Manila, the Philippines, raised and distributed large amounts of money to charities and received several District Awards.
1991-1992
The second president was New Zealander, Tony Turner who is a public affairs consultant. A joint project with the sister club, Rotary Club of Pasay Silangan in Manila was initiated for the construction of a community building in the earthquake devastated area of Aringay, the Philippines. The Club during his year also signed a very significant (second) sister club agreement with the Rotary Club of Kyoto Naka, Japan.
1992-1993
Architect/Artist/Entertainer, Alfred Ching was president who led the Club to further heights. The joint project with the Rotary Club of Pasay Silangan in Manila, which was delayed due to volcanic eruptions, was completed in March 1993. During his leadership the Club consolidated and received numerous awards from the District and a Rotary International Citation.
1993-1994
The fourth president was Indian, Ram Tolani whom had resided in Hong Kong since 1979. Ram is an insurance professional and he was a founding member who joined the Club in 1990. During his leadership, more than HK$600,000 was raised for the charity fund. The Club achieved 80.67% attendance rate in June 1994. Presidential Citation for balance club achievement with focus on hands on service was received at the District Assembly.
1994-1995
The 5th commemorative year of the Rotary Club of Wanchal was led by Suzie Setsuko Wakai who was a founding member and the first female president of the Club. Ms Wakal is a Japanese who has b
een living in Hong Kong for more than 25 years. She runs her own business as a public relations consultant. During her leadership, the Rotaract Club of Wanchai was established. The Club was involved in raising funds for the victims of Kansai Earthquake in Japan and floods in China and Rwanda. The Club also worked jointly with sister club Rotary Club of Kyoto Naka to donate a blood refrigerator to Jinan Univeristy, Guangdong Province during the year.
